Learning Session

A session is usually a stretch of subtitles from one episode: move sentence by sentence, understand meaning, then check each word.

1. Choose What to Learn

Open imported media, pick episode or time range, and enter study mode. Sentences appear in subtitle order.

2. Understand the Sentence

  • Play the matching video segment;
  • Read the subtitle (and optional translation);
  • Try to paraphrase before peeking at translation.

Active recall

Ask yourself “What does this line mean?” before revealing the answer—this step greatly improves retention. See Why Learn This Way.

3. Word by Word: Known or Not?

After grasping the sentence, the app lists words (common function words may be filtered per version). For each word:

ActionResult
KnownLogged as mastered; little or no review
UnknownAdded to your vocabulary and flashcard queue

Be honest. Marking “known” when you cannot recall wastes reviews; marking “unknown” schedules the word at the right time.

4. Flashcards

Unknown words are linked to:

  • Spelling and definition (dictionary integration varies by version);
  • Source sentence and video timestamp;
  • First-seen date for spaced scheduling.

After a batch, check today’s new words and pending reviews on the dashboard.

Why This Design?

Isolated word lists rarely teach tone and usage. Prism Lines pins each word to the line where you met it—on review you hear the character’s real delivery, not a generic example. Next: Review & Sentence Playback.
